PAYBACK: VIDELA'S LEGACY

GHETTO CUBANO
en esta ciudad siempre se ha hablado del ajuste de cuentas una vez pase lo que nunca pasa o caiga lo que no se cae. propuestas no han faltado. el cubano es creativo. hace años agustin vendetta tamargo arengo por radio pidiendo 3 dias de carniceria en cuba. no, el pedido no era de 72 horas de venta de picadillo de primera ni ternilla a precio modico; era darle ñampiti gorrion a cada verdugo castrista por las calles de la isla. trio de noches de cuchillos largos (añoradas tambien por yoani sanchez en un poetico post) y luego cada cual para su casa a lavarse la sangre y aqui no ha pasado nada. despues vino la propuesta del conde de dracula: huber matos en entrevista del herald. que sugirio que muchos castristas o simpatizantes deben ser colgados de las farolas del malecon habanero. es decir, matos quiere volver a cuba una transilvania del caribe o un camagüey grande donde el fusilo a 100 entre enero y septiembre del 59. obviando distanciamiento de la realidad, irresponsabilidad, desatino civil e inmadurez social, estas propuestas suenan a comedura de cativia y senilidad. pero para modernizarnos aparecieron 4 narcoabogados cubanoamericanos en su mediana edad -profesionales activos de la comunidad- bien educados en el primer mundo y conocedores de las leyes. trajeados por el canal 41 y con un proyecto en mano: cuba, represion i.d. y como es logico, oscaraza les presto su espacio. el nuevo pase de cuentas fue mas tecnologico. consistia en usar los videos de los recorridos de la comparsa reversible, la de blanco, en cuba, congelar las imagenes de los contramarchistas en buena resolucion digital, y circularles sus caras para que los televidentes los identificasen con la finalidad de tomar represalias contra ellos. es decir, 4 leguleyos miamenses se convirtieron en fiscales de los contramarchistas. se advierte que los 4 letrados archivarian las identidades hasta dar con un tribunal nuremberg competente que juzgue de acuerdo a la gravedad de cada caso. imagino que las demandas multimillonarias, muy comunes en miami, esa corte las deje fuera, y que nadie pueda decir que el vecino le debe un millon de dolares por gritarle 'viva fidel!' demasiado pegado a la guataca. quien no se percate, no atine a comprender el nivel de farsa y manipulacion detras, es un bobo. mero entretenimiento, reality show de tv donde a la audiencia se le hace creer que forma parte de una accion legal internacional. un producto para consumo de miami porque su objetivo no era procesar a nadie que apoyase a la revolucion. para ello carecian de recursos y base legal. empezando porque el 1 mayo tenian que congelar en la pantalla un millon de rostros cubanos. y con esto ni siembran miedo alla ni muestran poder aca. y estos 4 ajustadores de cuentas de ultima hora aseguraron que el proyecto se les ocurrio en los almuerzos que tienen entre ellos mismos.
ASUNTO ARGENTINO
en la otra cara de la moneda las noticias vinieron de la patagonia. el gorila jorge videla, de 86, que estaba en prision domiciliaria (conoci a su nieto en key biscayne, ya lo conte antes en el blog) fue condenado dias atras. le metieron 50 años en cana. es un hito en argentina. videla y 10 militarotes mas junto a policias -incluyendo otro dictador, reynaldo bignone- fueron procesados por el robo de 34 bebes recien nacidos durante la llamada dirty war (1976-1983). a principios de año videla causo un espanto en argentina cuando admitio el asesinato sistematico durante su gestion dictatorial, pero insistio que el conteo de muertes era mucho mas bajo que los 30 mil que sugerian eliminados por el estado. las abuelas de la plaza de mayo, logia de derechos humanos (sucursal de las madres de la plaza de mayo) que se dedican a resolver lo de los niños perdidos durante la epoca negra, jugaron un papel primordial en llamar la atencion internacional a este tema. y recibieron ayuda de gente en la yuma como laurel reuter, directora del museo de north dakota y curadora que produjo una exposicion ambulante: los desaparecidos (entre el 2006 y el 2010). una de sus instalaciones, diseñada para atraer la mirada mundial, incluia un muestrario denominado identidad, creado -ideado- desde 1998 por las abuelas. unos 13 artistas argentinos se hicieron una espectacular galeria de fotos de las parejas desaparecidas con madres embarazadas o bebes de brazos. junto al muestrario habia un espejo donde el espectador veia su reflejo provocandole a meditar sobre la pregunta puesta: eres tu el niño perdido -ahora crecido- que pertenece a estos padres? la tarima ambulante se paseo por 100 ciudades de 30 paises. pero los cubanos no salen del canal 41. es que si les dan dinero para eso se lo gastan en un apartamento en bahamas. y para colmo, tienen un estilo diferente de arreglar sus cuentas: piden pena de muerte. por eso al final tal vez el llamado proyecto de cuba represion i.d. sea un pequeño logro: no es letal. el problema es que no son artistas como los argentinos, todavia son tiburones.©varela
CUBAN GHETTO
in this city there has always been talk about a settling of accounts after something happens (that will never happen) or something falls (that will not fall). there has been no shortage of proposals. cubans are creative people. years ago, agustin 'vendetta' tamargo harangued over the radio asking for 3 days of butchery in cuba. his call was not for the sale of prime beef or veal at affordable prices; it was to make mincemeat of each and every castro-loving hangman who walked the streets. trio nights of the long knives (also dreamed by glogger yoani sanchez in a poetic post), after which everybody goes home to wash the blood off himself, and that's that. later came a proposal from 'count dracula', rebel commander huber matos, in an interview with the herald. he suggested that many castroites or castro supporters should be hanged from the lamp posts along havana's malecon. in other words, matos wants to turn cuba into a caribbean transylvania or a big camaguey, the cuban province where he killed 100 by firing squad between january and september, circa 1959. leaving aside disassociation with reality, irresponsibility, lack of judgment and social immaturity, these proposals sound like stupidity and senility. however, to bring us up to the present, here came 4 middle-aged cuban-american narco-lawyers, active in the community, knowledgeable about first world affairs and the law. they show up in business suits at channel 41 with a proposal in hand: cuba, repression i.d. and, naturally, oscar haza welcomes them to his air time. that new settlement of accounts was more technological. it consists of using the videos of the ladies in white's marches in cuba, freezing the images of counterdemonstrators (with good digital resolution) and circulating their faces so the viewers may identify them for the purpose of taking reprisals against them. in other words, 4 miami lawyers wannabe become prosecutors of the counterdemonstrators. allegedly, the 4 'learned' lawyers will file the identities away until they find a competent nuremberg-like tribunal that will rule according to the gravity of each case. i imagine that the court will dismiss any multimillion-dollar claim, which are very common in miami, and nobody will be allowed to say that her neighbor owes her a million dollars because he shouted 'long live fidel!' too close to her ear. whosoever does not realize or understand the level of farce and manipulation behind all this is a fool. this is all mere entertainment, a tv reality show where the audience is tricked into believing that it's part of an international legal action. a product for consumption in miami, because its objective is not to try anyone who supports the revolution. the organizers don't have the resources or legal foundation to do that. to begin with, comes may 1, they would have to freeze a million cuban faces on the tv screen. by doing that, they wouldn't spread fear on the island or show power in miami. these 4 last-minute shylocks claim the project 'occurred to them' during the luncheons they share.
ARGENTINE AFFAIR
in the other side of the coin, news came from patagonia. former military big boss, jorge videla, 86, in house arrest (i knew his grandson in key biscaine, is written in this blog) was convicted days ago. he got 50 years in prison. the conviction marks a historical moment for argentina. videla and 10 other former military and police members -including another dictator, reynaldo bignone- were on trial for the theft of 34 babies during the country’s so-called dirty war (1976-1983). earlier this year videla caused an outcry in argentina when he admitted to systematic killings during the dictatorship, but insisted that the death toll was much lower than the estimated 30,000 people murdered by the state. the grandmothers of the plaza de mayo, a human rights group (a branch of the mothers of the plaza de mayo) dedicated specifically to fighting for the return of the lost children during the dirty war, has played a large part in bringing international attention to this issue. and they received help from people in united states like laurel reuter, director of the north dakota museum of art and curator who made a traveling art exhibit called los desaparecidos (the disappeared) during 2006-2010. one of the installations, designed to bring international attention to the aftermath of the disappeared included in the exhibit was called identidad, or identity, created in 1998 at the behest of the grandmothers group. some 13 argentine artists created the installation art which includes a series of photos of disappeared couples who were pregnant or had infants at the time of their disappearance. next to each couple’s photos was a mirror where the viewer’s face was reflected back. the piece aimed to provoke viewers to consider the question: are you the missing child, now adult, that belongs to these parents? the traveling art exhibit was in 100 cities around 30 countries. but cubans stayed at channel 41. and if they receive money for that, they use the money for a new apartament in bahamas. to make things worse, they have a different style for settling their accounts: they ask for death penalty. so perhaps the so-called cuba repression i.d. project had a point. the project is not lethal. the problem is they're not artists like the argentinians, they're still ambulance chasers.©varela
