JOSE MARTI & DOMESTIC TERRORISM

wikipedia tells us that jesse james (1847-1882) was an outlaw, gang leader, confederate guerrilla, banks and trains robber, and murderer from the state of missouri. but last night was treated worse in a special program (produced in 2011) in the military channel (287, direct tv). according to the current rules, the office of homeland security lists to james as a sociopath and domestic terrorist, in addition to all of the above. however, our jose marti (1853-1895) had another idea of him. the cuban national hero wrote a chronicle about the american domestic terrorist for 'la opinion nacional' of caracas in 1882. here, the more important fragment...
these days that to new york were party, have been stirring in missouri, where was a bandit of high forehead, beautiful face and hand made to kill, that he stoles not bags but banks; nor houses but towns; he assailed nor balconies but trains. he was jungle's hero. his bravery was so great, that the people of the land estimated him above his crimes. and was not born from evil father, but clergy, nor villain seemed, but knight, nor married with bad woman, but with school teacher. and some say that it was political chief, in one of his rest stations, or he was living protected under false name, and came as a chieftain to elect president to the last democrats convention. are the lands of missouri and kansas full of stiff bush and closed groves. jesse james and his men knew the bends of the jungle, the hiding places of the roads, the fords of the swamps, the tree holes. her house was an armory, so his belt, because carried 2 large and loaded revolvers at waist. he began to live when there was a war, and pluck the life of long bearded man, when he still didn't have beard. in time of alba, would have been captain of one-third in flanders. in times of pizarro, a good lieutenant of him. in these times, he was soldier, and then he was bandit. it was not those magnificent sheridan soldiers, who fought because it was all this land one, and to free slave, and raised the north pavilion in the dogged confederate fortresses. neither of those other silent grant's patients soldiers, and surrounded the terrified rebels, as serene hunter of hungry wild boar. it was the southern guerrillas, for whom was the flag of the war, coat of arms of prey. his hand was killing instrument. he left dwad on the ground, and loaded with loot, would make generous deal with his peers from feats, which kiss his hand as minor tigers to the big cat. just finishing the war, began a tremendous duel. on one side were the young bandits, who entered with horse in the cities, called at the gates of the banks, drewing all the money in broad daylight, and sobering-up centres of danger, that intoxicates as wine, ran away with cheers among of dismayed populations, that notice the crime when it was crowned, and they persecute the criminals in a lousy way (...) and they saw in the dared thief a knight of stealing, and they left beating their touched hearts, which always move when the good doctrine of the soul has not cleansed them, before any extraornidary act, even vile. like this, in front of the bulls that die at the hand of men in the red circus, usually the ladies of spain put into the air her big fans...
-aside from the glorification of violence, ignorance of the monster in spite of having lived in their bowels, and the need of associative critique to the iberian metropolis, flourishes the eternal clash of cultures cuba-u.s.a. 'cause a modern news media analysis about our hero on the basis of this chronicle, will describe him more or less so: jose marti, poet, declaimer and cuban revolutionary of the 19th century, was a passionate admirer of the outlaw jesse james, gang leader, confederate guerrilla, banks and trains robber, murderer, sociopath and domestic terrorist from the state of missouri.©varela
