die welt, fidel castro contrato 2 miembros de las ss hitlerianas como entrenadores militares en 1962. es creible. tiene el 99% de ser cierta. como elite militar o tropa de choque, las schutzstaffel o waffen-ss eran lo mejor del personal militar del primer tercio del siglo 20. con condiciones fisicas por encima de emilio ichikawa y andres reynaldo, eran diestros en varias armas y en sobrevivir en condiciones adversas como nieve y desierto. no hay por que alarmarse de admirar a estas tropas, precursores de los boinas verdes americanos, los spetsnaz rusos y los modernos gurkhas britanicos. y cierto estudio que he hecho sobre las inclinaciones de fidel con los alemanes en la segunda guerra mundial me dan 3 frases del lider cubano aparentemente inocuas donde denota admiracion por los alemanes en la segunda guerra mundial. ademas, jose ignacio rasco, un amigo de el de cuando estudiaron en el colegio de belen, que aunque luego fue rival politico suyo nunca dejo de admirarlo hasta el punto de conversar ambos en tono amistoso cuando se vieron en un tercer pais, dijo que fidel castro cuando estudiaba en los jesuitas en su dormitorio tenia un mapa de europa donde iba marcando el avance de la wehrmacht por los distintos paises y de las ciudades bombardeadas por la luftwaffe. las 3 veces donde fidel castro reverencio el militarismo germano -con connotaciones profundas en su vida- fue una vez cuando criticando el poderio de guerra estadounidense dijo que unas pocas divisiones panzer alemanas hicieron correr a los americanos en la ardenas en el escenario belico de europa durante la segunda guerra mundial. esta ofensiva de diciembre de 1944, la ultima del führer para tratar de virar la tortilla con los aliados, fue significativa no solo porque saco a la batalla la ultima tecnologia de alemania en los super tanques tigres y los rifles sturmgewehr 44 de peine curvo (copiados despues por los rusos para la ak47) sino que usaron la tactica de vestirse como soldados norteamericanos para confundir a las tropas aliadas. y esto fue usado por fidel castro apenas 9 años despues en el asalto al moncada cuando su tropa fue vestida con uniforme militar de batista. en la segunda ocasion donde fidel halago a los alemanes fue cuando dijo que israel habia usado la blitzkrieg o guerra relampago de los nazis para la guerra de los 6 dias en 1967 cuando se apoderaron de manera electrizante de la peninsula del sinai de la republica arabe unida (egipto cuando entonces) y las alturas de golan de siria. recuerdo que en esa ocasion fidel argumento, de manera ironica y casi despectiva, que el mejor estilo de guerrear de los nazis fue copiado por los judios, precisamente victimas del nazismo. la tercera vez que fidel dejo ver su admiracion por el militarismo aleman fue durante el juicio al general arnaldo ochoa. a ochoa la prensa occidental -a proposito del juicio- comenzo a llamarlo el genio militar cubano tanto en angola como en nicaragua cuando el jaleo del sandinismo y los contras. entonces fidel, a traves del fiscal escalona (castro, abogado, le escribia con terminos legales todos los discursos diarios al fiscal durante el juicio a ochoa) en un momento decidio arremeter contra el mito de ochoa diciendo que era un guajirito de la tropa de camilo que hizo meritos gracias a la revolucion y que no provenia de ninguna casta de tradicion militar prusiana. por eso yo creo en esa nota del herald. fidel castro fue admirador de la alemania hitleriana. pero tambien lo fueron muchos jovenes de su generacion porque mi padre solia decirme que nunca un jefe de estado (hitler) habia podido reunir un equipo tan perfecto de gobierno a su lado. y le gustaba usar todo tipo de producto aleman de los años 50: tenia una camara fotografica kodak, una pistola lugger y compro un mercedes-benz en el 58. creo que era el resultado de una generacion de cubanos crecidos en la admiracion al poder y la tecnologia alemana de mediados de siglo pasado, contra el americanismo que se imponia en una isla. es un caso social, digno de estudio. pero tambien es una epoca de mi pais que no comprendo muy bien.
