GONE WITH THE WINTER

primera caratula de newsweek / first newsweek cover
i remember the time in which i was subscribed to many publications. it arrived to my mailbox with clock precision. another was the effect of being informed. had smell, touch, shine, concern if you break what you have on hand. one of my favorites sources of information was newsweek. was a time when every cover was controversy. now just announced that at the end of the year it closes its paper edition and stays with the digital. 1 of the america's big magazines goes out of the street stands and mailboxes to stay only in the cold screen of our ipad or smartphone. goes as everything. it's progress. so were as empty the walls of the caves and the rocks on the roads when the parchment was invented. now you touch a greenish surface and with the tip of your finger you open the world. hd three-dimensional pics instead of printed graph on recycle cellulose. cybernetic absorbs all. already took market and information. it will take art, religion and sex. and all human activities. don't ask me how. a friend told me that for a whole year he doesn't hear the voice of his son: but he writes him a daily text-message with a love emoticon. and what if he isn't and has only set a device to put 'love dad' with a smiling face from the harvest to planting at dawn to sunset? while another former colleague emailed me that doesn't understand as he has 2,135 friends on facebook while i only have 186, and no one knows him. that is, that no one knows him. that's the issue: about the smell, the touch, the shine, the fear if you break what you have on hand...©varela
