photograph from a japanese plane at the beginning of the attack. the explosion in the center is a torpedo strike on the u.s.s. oklahoma. 2 attacking japanese planes can be seen: 1 over the u.s.s. neosho and 1 over the naval yard.
on december 7 (8 for the japanese) 1941 before the first wave of yamamoto's zeros came, already americans had sunk a midget submarine outside the dock port of the naval base in hawaii. nippon pride plays self-immolation at history because they are blamed by the bombing as an uncleanliness low blow. and it was not so. united states knew that they were going to attack. it knew the plan and did nothing because it was the only way to enter the war with 95% of the domestic opinion in favour an the entire congress (82-0 the senate, 388-1 the house). 2 thousand dead and 10 second hand ships sunk was the price to pay for sneaking into the global conflict. but the truly functional ships for the time, the aircraft carriers enterprise and lexington, were not anchored but sailing on the high seas. all of that ended with 2 atomic bombs 4 years later, charging the lives price 10 times: 200,000 japanese killed (civilians almost all) and 2 cities erased from the map in couple of days. the japanese still have not apologized for the pacific's get ahead, not because u.s.a. not have asked forgiveness for hiroshima and nagasaki's but because they have not confessed them the pearl harbor's trick. and so, as children, they go along.©varela
